Baby First Month Chinese Theme Party

Congratulations on your baby first month!

Why not celebrate this tiny miracle's birth by having a baby first month celebration using a Chinese theme?

The Chinese celebrate this auspicious day with a lot of fanfare for the little bundle of joy, called the "Full Month Celebration".

The proud parents of the baby will throw a "Ginger Trotters and Red Eggs party". It is also time to announce the birth of the baby and his or her name.

Plan the celebration to be held at the time where the baby is awake and arrange the baby's room be out of reach for the breast feeding mum to feed the hungry baby, out of sight of the guests.

If you are not Chinese and you plan to hold a baby first month bash to announce the birth of your child, you can having a Chinese Theme "Red Eggs and Tim Sum party".

1. Invitations

For the baby showers invitations : Print a picture of Chinese baby clothes or take picture of your new born in Chinese kids clothing with the Chinese hat attached with pigtails.

Print on the inside: "Wanna Yum Cha and see our new baby? You are invited to our Chinese Tim Sum party to celebrate our little boy or little girl wonder on date, time and venue. Invite guests over for the party dressed in Chinese costume.

2. Decorations

Decorate your doors with the Chinese character "Xi" which means double happines and also Chinese baby faces on red paper cutouts.

Have a few mini Chinese lanterns hang on the living room tie up with fishing lines. Have a Chinese friend to write Chinese couplets or the Chinese well wishes in Chinese calligraphy on Chinese red scrolls. You can bluetack this paper or framed it up and hang it up on the wall where all guests will have an eyeball on. You can also make Chinese fans by using bright red color paper and use gold paint to write your Chinese poem or English well wishes.

Decorate the table with Chinese table cloth (if you can't find one, you throw a Red or Pink Chinese printed silk or cotton table runner on top of the white or cream color table cloth).

Place two Chinese tim sum carriers and fil it up with tim sums or Chinese finger foods. Have matching Chinese chopsticks, spoons, bowls and plates and serving spoons. Serve Chinese Olong tea or chrysanthemum tea on Chinese teacups with matching teapots.

3. Party Favors

Have red dyed eggs, Chinese fans with the baby's face printed on it and mandarin oranges in a Chinese paper bag as the party favors.

4. Party Cakes

Well, you can give this a miss as it is not a birthday party. Chinese usually have kuehs, rice cakes and sweets. One novel idea though: you can try baking a cake with the Chinese word "Xi" or have a picture of the new born plus two Chinese peaches or mandarin oranges.

5. Party Food

Have red dyed eggs, Peants or red bean paste kuehs or "ang ku kehs" (sticky cakes) for desserts. On the side you can attempt to make ginger pig trotters for the guests.

If all these sound really foreign, you can serve Chinese tim sum or Chinese take-aways as party food using disposable chopsticks and spoons. For beverages, you can serve Chinese tea.

If you have big budget, you can engage a 3 piece Chinese band or a Chinese acrobat to entertain you at a Chinese restaurant. This will ease some of the stress in organising your party at home if you are the parents or grandparents of the child.

Alternatively, if you want to host this baby first month party at home and cooking Chinese dishes is a great challenge, why not call Chinese food delivery or take outs.

Some Chinese restaurant may even obliged by lending or renting you their Chinese cutleries. This will definitely ease you a lot of headaches trying to get them.

How about getting a Chinese restaurant to cater your baby showers tim sum buffet? They will take care of all the decorations for the food. This way, you can fold your arms (use it to carried the new babe instead), rest a little and enjoy the party!

6. Party Music

Chinese celebration music or just the classics like Mozart as background.
