How To Choose Or Make Colorful, Fun and Safe Pinata For Your Party

Pinata is no doubt one of the most popular party games at birthday parties.

It has many uses - it can be one of your main party decorations, the main attraction at the party and it can also be the most exciting game. Once you have decided on the theme of your party, you can either order online or at the shop. You can also order custom made them online or at the shops. Better still, make it yourself! Take it as a special project as a couple or bonding time with the kids or simply special time with friends. It can be really fun making it together with your loved ones.

1. Some tips on choosing that beautiful pinata and safety

Choosing pinata is the same as choosing your decorations for your birthday party. You will need to take into consideration the party theme , matching colors, sizes, age appropriateness for the birthday boy or girl and their friends. If it is an outdoor party, you will have to ensure that it is hang on a safe and solid holder like a thick tree branch, metal gate etc.

Safety (in the materials used, the stick for striking and the hanging) should be your top priority. One additional consideration will be the stuffings inside. Do check the expiry dates of food items, any toys and its pieces that are choking hazards especially very young children.

Do not include sharp-edged materials as stuffings as this may be highly dangerous when it is flown out with force. Make sure that everyone is at least one and half metre away from the hitter.

Ensure that all the children pick up the stuffings after the hitter has completely stop hitting. This should be implemented and emphasised strictly especially to young children. Better still, get an adult to be in charge of 3 to 4 kids to ensure safety rules are adhered to.

If your party is held indoor, you should consider a pull pinata especially if the area for play is small. The pull ones are easy to play and accidents for example being hit on the head, the hitter hit himself and "flying stick" won't happen.

There are so many different types in all shapes, sizes, colors to choose from whether online or at the shops. You can also custom made one for your party. For custom made ones, some shops will need you to provide them with a photo, sketch, computer image and describe how and what materials you want.

Usually it will take about 3 weeks to a month for it to be custom made depending on the complexity of the design and the communication process and agreement between you and the supplier. If you decided to do a rush job, do expect that it will cost more. So do factor the time taken to custom made and the cost in your party planning checklist and party planning budget.

2. Some tips on making your own pinata

Rule one: Do get an adult to help you with the process.

Rule Two: Ensure that you mix the glue paste well without leaving lumps of flour

Rule Three: Make sure that your glue is completely dry before you pop and remove the balloon.

Rule Four: Layering well is important, make sure that every part is layered over evenly.

Rule Five: The hole for stuffing should not be too big or too small do a good estimate by measuring the biggest item and you would like to stuff into the pinata.

Most people love pinatas especially the children. They love it because of the bright colors, the element of surprise, the fun and anticipation of hitting and lastly, picking up goodies like candies and small presents. It is an enjoyable game for the adults too as both children and adults gets to hit and everyone get to scramble for "little gifts".

It is a good physical workout too.
