Me, Work At Home? Dreams Do Come True!

Yes, I quit my full time job to work at home to start this website and do part-time consulting. Most importantly to spend more time with my kids!

I was a full time working mom of two pre-school kids when I decided to leave my well paid job in the financial sector as a Marketing Communication Consultant last year. I was clocking in crazy hours including some weekends and I hardly spend time with my kids then 4 and 6.

There were many times I work past midnight and I flopped to bed, dead tired without a chance to talk to any of my family members. This went on for many months. Sometimes, it was a consolation prize when I managed to go home on early and have dinner with my family! Pathetic lifestyle right?

Last year, I had to take many days of sick leave because the stress level has taken a toll on my health. On one of thosedays, I was really sick and was resting at home. My son woke me up from my sleep and said: "Mummy, hardly get to see you at home, everyday you leave for work when I am sleeping and you returned home when I'm asleep! I miss you mummy". You should see that sadness in his face. My heart melted and there's a bigger lump in my throat on top of having a very bad sore throat.

I hugged my son and we cried together. Later that week, my son's teacher told me that he was having difficulties reading and that jolted me to search for a work at home opportunity and a business opportunity.

Courage To Change

I have been with my last company for almost 15 years and leaving all these was really a very difficult decision. However, the work conditions and hours has become longer and tougher. I prayed to God and finally, with a great sense of peace, I handed the resignation letter to my boss. What a relief, to be able to work at home and spend time catching up with my kids! I love to take this time off from corporate work for a while to do what I've always wanted, to do before embarking on my new career.

My website success story and learning journey

I already have a Site Build It! (SBI!) website which I registered the domain in 2006, the year before I quit my job. However, I didn't really have the time to work on it as my full time job didn't leave any space for that.

I started looking for part time work, research on work from home business, internet business or jobs etc but I hit against the walls most of the time. So I started to look for work at home jobs.

In late 2005, I was introduced to Site Build It! (SBI!) by a friend who work at home and owns a few very successful SBI websites.

The road to success was really a lot of hard work. I almost give up working on my website if not for my friend and the SBI forum community's encouragement to persevere on - tortoise style.

During those times when I felt like giving up, I came across these successful work at home SBI owners' stories, they are very touching and it was a source of encouragement for me to continue working on my website during those initial days.

After I quit my job, I started to work at home on my website non stop to catch up on lost time.

I am not a techie person and surprisingly SBI! is really very easy to work on with the tools they provide. It was written in a easy to read and understand language unlike some company that provide all those computer jargon that only IT professionals can understand.

I used the SBI's Action Guide and the Video Action Guide and followed closely the tools and techniques which was provided in one package. It is like a bible for work at home website building!

Why I love working on my SBI site? It's because I am working from home on something I am passionate about and also I can choose my own working hours.

There were days when inspiration just flows and I could write pages everyday and there were weeks that I didn't work on my website because the children were sick or we are away for a holiday.

And the best part of it all? I still earn money from my Google Adsense and other affiliate programs despite not being able to work on my website for 1-2 weeks!
